Authentic - traditional Isandra Circuit
“Soatanàna Village” (2 days)
This circuit is dedicated to those who want to discover in 2 days the Betsileo tradition and rites in the Isandra region and end with the discovery of the white religion originating from the village of Soatanànà.
The people all wear white clothing to embody Christian humility and community solidarity.
You will have a wonderful time and leave with unforgettable memories: the warm welcome and legendary hospitality of the people, the unique blend of prayer and song, accompanied by the Betsileo hymn “Zafindraony” at all times.
Village Soatanànà
Day 1: Journey from Fianarantsoa to Isorana (33km)
Early in the morning, we will leave the city of Fianarantsoa and drive for about 1.5 hours through the beautiful landscapes of the Malagasy highlands to reach the village of Isorana.
A 2km walk awaits us to witness the great tradition of the Betsileo people. We will visit the Isandra cave with its history, ask for the blessing of the ancestors, sacrifice a chicken, and have a party to end the day. We will return to the village of Tsinjony and then continue on the road to arrive at the incomparable village of Soatanànà.
We will settle in and spend the night with the locals.
Day 2: The Prayer Day
Sunday morning, everyone gets ready and wears white clothes for the big prayer day. At 9am, we meet Ray Aman-dreny (president of the community), and the faithful dressed in white are waiting for us in front of the house with the Betsileo hymn “Zafindraony” for an incredible procession through the village to go to church.
At church, we live an unparalleled moment seeing the white color and listening to the hymn without an instrument, quite unique. After the service which usually lasts two hours, a walk from the church to join Ray Aman-dreny’s house. And a long procession leads us to the welcome of visitors by the washing of feet among the practice of the instructions of the disciples of the Lord.
